Be True To Yourself

English

English is the language we listen to, speak, read and write every day. In this subject we explore ways of studying English to use at work, at play, with others and for personal enjoyment. Studying English builds self-confidence, helps you reach your goals and leads to lifelong learning. 


What will students do in the junior years?

  • Focus on literacy development
  • Study novels (Fiction)
  • Non-fiction such as famous people and events
  • Myths and legends
  • Produce a picture-book
  • Study heroes and villains
  • Study how movies tell us about ourselves and our world
  • Experience Shakespeare
  • Examine mass media and its influence
  • Prepare for examinations: NAPLAN and the School Certificate

What can students do in the senior years?

In Year 11 students will study an area of study to prepare for a similar study in the HSC. They will also study three different texts (novel, poetry and visual representations) to familiarize themselves with the demands of the HSC course.

For the HSC, students study the Advanced or Standard courses. Extension 1 and Extension 2 courses are also offered. The Area of Study is “Belonging”.
