Vocational Education

Bass High School offers five Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses - Business Services, Construction, Hospitality, Information Technology and Primary Industries. These courses are currently being delivered in Years 11 and 12 with a view to introducing them in Year 10.

School Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses offers students the chance to obtain their HSC while gaining real skills and knowledge in a range of industries. Students receive a nationally recognised Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) credential on successful completion of a course.

Students studying a Vocational Education and Training (VET) course will acquire underpinning skills and knowledge related to a variety of industries that will enable them to make informed career choices and will assist students in finding employment or further training opportunities.

Students studying a Vocational Education and Training (VET) course are provided with the opportunity to enjoy spending some of their school time involved in "hands on" training. Students learn relevant industry skills and use some of the same tools and equipment used in industry.

 

Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses at Bass High School

Business Services

Students will gain a range of personal, administrative and computer skills to work in office administration. The business services industry provides clerical and administrative support to commerce, industry, government and various professional organisations including the legal, real estate and medical professions.

 

Construction

The skills and work experience gained in Construction can lead directly to work in the construction industry. Students learn to work individually and as part of a team. Students also learn to plan and organise projects within the scope of the building industry.  Students will obtain a NSW WorkCover construction induction certificate.

 

Hospitality

The skills and work experience gained in Hospitality focus on working as part of a team in the hospitality industry, developing menus, managing resources, preparing, cooking and serving a range of dishes and providing customer service. The study of Hospitality can lead to a range of occupations in hotels, clubs, restaurants and tourism operations.

 

Information Technology

The skills gained in the Information Technology course could lead to a career in computer support, designing web pages, systems and databases and finding solutions to technical and software problems.

 
Primary Industries

The industry areas available to students in this course include Agriculture, Animal Care, Horticulture, Conservation, Farm and Land Management. The study of Primary Industries can lead to career opportunities in a range of occupations related to these areas.
